The Big Apple update: iO9 and OS X El Capitan

The next iOS and OS X updates are coming! Presenting to you iOS 9 and OS X El Capitan.
In this post we will take a closer look at those two updates. What are the biggest changes that await us and what are the things to be most hyped about?! Let's find out.

The next OS X Update: OS X El Capitan

With OS X El Capitan Apple once more tries to make design and practical use come together. OS X Yosemite was already focused on connecting all your Apple Device and to just make your life easier, wether you're sitting at your desk or on the go. OS X El Capitan will even go further than before and adds simple, yet functional features that makes your Mac device works even better and faster.
I'll highlight the biggest changes that are coming with El Capitan.

OS X El Capitan Logo
OS X El Capitan: Split View
When you're using several apps on your Mac it's really easy to lose the overview, since there is no easy way to put the apps next to each other on screen. Of course, you can drag the screens next to each other and adjust their size(s), but it's too much of a thing to do. With Split View your screen automatically fills your screens with two apps you chose. This way you can easily work in to apps at the same time. And once you're done you can just swipe back to your desktop.
Even though I have no trouble with using more than one app on my iMac, for my Mac Book Pro Split View is a very welcome feature.
OS X El Capitan - Split View with Reader and Imessage working together.
OS X El Capitan: Mission Control and Bigger Mouse
The Mission Control Feature also receive a (small) update. Your windows are now better organised once you use Mission Control. The different windows are now more outlined and this way it's easier to find the program you want to use. It's not a big update, but still nice that they optimise it to make a bit more streamlined. In the theme of creating a better overview, Apple has also announced a feature Bigger Mouse. Sometimes when working on a Mac (or any other device driving by a mouse) it's gets easy sometimes to lose track of your mouse. Those times are gone now. If you even lose your mouse, just shake your finger on your trackpad and your mouse on screen will appear bigger. This way you can directly get back to work.

OS X El Capitan: Apple Maps
In Apple Maps you can now also track routes for public transportation (finally!). This is also a really nice feature that works extreme well with the fact that are your Apple devices are connected better than before. You can now plan your route on you Mac and then let them read out loud on your iPhone when you're on the go.

OS X El Capitan: Metal - Graphics Performance Upgrade
Metal is Apple's newest graphic core technology that gives games and apps near-direct acces to the graphics processor on your Mac. Apple claims that Metal makes graphics rendering 50% more faster and up to 40% more efficient. They even claim that Metal creates improves draw call performance up to 10 times. So, Metal makes Games and apps like iMovie and Photos run smoother and faster, with better graphics control and display.

OS X El Capitan: Other Small Updates
There are also several small updates that makes Mail and Photos run better, more supported languages, closing all audio from the tabs that are open without having to look for the one that is playing music and finally notes are connected to iCloud, so they are the same on all your Apple devices.

A lot of news to progress from the new OS X update. But let's not stop there, let's continue to the new iOS update which is iOS 9.

The next iOS Update: iOS 9

Yes! The new update for iOS is finally coming to us. The focus in this update seems to be mostly about relevance, location based features and making features/apps work even smoother.

iOS 9 logo
iOS 9 Update: Longer Battery Life and more Storage Capacity
The feature that I want to mention first is that iOS 9 will work even better with the battery life. iOS 9 makes better use of the different sensors in your iOS device so Apple claims this at least saves one hour battery life per one full charged battery. You now also get the option called Low Power Mode which makes you use the battery even longer.

iOS 9 also makes updating you system and apps are lot better. Instead that you have to download a full package, Apple now efficiently streams an update and makes the required space for an update a lot smaller. A big plus if you ask me. Because creating space *insert dramatics music* means erasing parts of life of your iPhone.

Your iOS device also gets a Metal update and better security (with also the possibility of a six digit password).

iOS 9 Update: Siri takes over
Of course Siri doesn't takes over, but she can be used for even more features and makes her even a better assistent.

iOS 9 Update: News
The new app from Apple is called News and as the name suggests is a News app. News will bring you News updates from over the entire world or just the themes in which you're interested in. Although I think okay, I'm not that happy with another app that Apple forces you on your iDevice. Even though most of those apps turned out well, it's still another app that uses storage that you can also use for other things. We will have to see how it works out.

iOS 9 Update: Notes
As mentioned before Notes are now connected on iOS. This way you can access your notes from every iDevice and Mac. You can now also easily add anything you like in Notes. If it's a Map, a Message, a photo and so on. Sweet if you ask me.

iOS 9 Update: iPad Usability
iPads can now also be used even more efficient with Silde Over, Split View and Picture in Picture. This makes working and using the iPad even better.

iOS 9 Update: Compatible Systems
These are all the devices that are compatible for iOS 9:

That's everything you need to know about the new OS X and iOS update. I'm eager to find out what you think of the updates and the new features. Feel free to leave a comment in the comment section below. Oh and if you are an Android user and ready for an apple device, learn how to easily make the transfer from Android to iOS.

Thanks for reading and enjoy the new updates once OS X El Capitan and iOS 9 are released this fall.

Snapchat - Music in video update

Many of you are familiair with the social app Snapchat. I admit, it's pretty fun to send images and video's that disappear after several seconds. Besides that, the app also gives you the option to write and place funny emoticons on the images and video's that you're sending.
The update (version 9.2.0) is currently only available for iOS systems and so far know there hasn't been an update for the Android systems.

How does it work?

Snapchat is leaving competitors behind with the music integration.
The way it works is really easy.
Just turn on the music on of the many music apps that are available (Music App of the iOS, Spotify, Deezer and so on) and record the Snapchat. You will notice that the music will keep on playing.

This is a real step ahead of the other popular video shooting apps like Vine, Instagram and/or the default video camera on the iPhone and iPad.

Are you familiar with Snapchat and do you use the app?

Let me know and keep sending those Snapchats!

iOS 8 for your iDevice is ready to go!

It has been 19.00 so if you check your iDevice you can download the new iOS by clicking on the Software-Update button in Settings. If you don't have 5,8 GB of free space on your iDevice you can also connect your iPhone or iPad to you PC or Mac and upgrade your iDevice with the use of iTunes.

iOS 8 ready to be downloaded

iCloud Drive

I suggest that you wait with upgrading your iCloud to iCloud Drive. You can't use the full futures of the iCloud Drive until the release of OS X Yosemite or the release of the Windows application for it.
If you do immediately upgrade to iCloud Drive, you won't be able to synchronies your files on the apps like Number, Keynote and Pages. This is because they are still an "old" iCloud file and not yet ready for usage with the new iCloud Drive.

I hope that the release of iOS 8 gives you no trouble (with the release of iOS 7 in the back of my head), so enjoy. Let me know what you think once you have it on your iOS device.

Apple makes the switch from Android a lot easier

Apple feels confident that with the coming of the new iPhones Android users will want to make the step to an iPhone. To make the transition as easy as possible Apple has created a guide. This way they really want to help (and confince) Android users to make the switch.

Leaving Android for iOS

Copy my data on iOS and Android
In the guide Apple shows Android users how easy it is to export their e-mailaccount(s) to an iOS device. Besides that, Apple points out to user the third-party app: Copy my Data, to make the transition even smoother. With the app personal files like agenda, contacts and photos will be transferred to the iOS with just some clicks

You can find the entire document at the support page of Apple. In the document there is an entire step-by-step guide that shows Android users how they can use iTunes on their PC of Mac to make this entire transition. The documents of Android will also be placed on iCloud and this way you can open the files with the (free mobile) apps of Keynote, Pages and even Number.

A screenshot of the app Copy my Data for iOS, you still need the Android version if you are going to make the switch from Android to iOS.

Record sales

Apple has also made the document because of the fact that the new iPhone 6 & the iPhone 6 Plus have already broken new pre-order records within 24 hours of their announcement. There have already been placed over four million pre-orders! Among these pre-ordes are a lot of Android users.

I want to know if you are an Android user are you going to switch to an iPhone? And if so, will you make use of the Copy My Data app?

The Big Apple update: iOS8, iPhone 6 (Plus), the Apple Smart Watch and Mac OS X Yosemite

Earlier this week Apple held their Keynote 2014 presentation and they showed off their new products. It is the first time that we (officially) could catch a glimpse at the iPhone 6, the iPhone 6 Plus and the Apple (Smart) Watch (which isn't named iWatch as we all first thought). Besides that Apple also showed off the new iOS; iOS8 which can be downloaded at the 17th of September as long as you at least have an iPhone 4S or higher and/or and a second generation iPad or higher. There will also be a new update for your Mac with OS X Yosemite. I will show you the highlights of their announcements.

iPhone 6 & iPhone 6 Plus

This time Apple didn't released just one iPhone, instead they released two. This way you can chose the size that fits you best:
The iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus source: Engadget

The new iPhones will be more curved (real phones have curses?! Anyone?) and are both thinner than their predecessors:

Apple does a smart step introducing these phones because the sales of phablets has increased significantly over the last few years:

Increase of phablets in Q1 2014

The new iPhones will both be available in several colors:

Source Apple.com
Looking at the specs inside the two iPhones we see a big increase in CPU en GPU speed and performance.  They both have an A8 chip with a 64 bit architecture and a M8 motion coprocessor. This time apps will open before you even touched them (that's a joke, perhaps on the iPhone 7?).

There is also a big increase in screen resolution and the amount of pixels. The iPhone 6 has a resolution of 1334 x 750 with 326 ppi and the iPhone 6 Plus a resolution of 1920 x 1080 (Full HD) with 401 ppi. What this means? The screen of the iPhone is sharper than ever before. Fun fact is that you can now also tilt your iPhone horizontally with your apps facing you, just like on an iPad.

The camera has also received a (small) update, so now you can make movies at Full HD with 60 fps. Besides that, the upgrade regarding the camera isn't that big. The fingerprint identity sensor will also be built-in in the two new iPhone models.

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will both be available as an 128 GB model. Both of them don't have a 32GB model. I find this a kind of weird, why not start with the 32GB model and skip the 16GB edition. Looking at the size of files these days, I can only predict that a lot of users with the 16GB model will have to keep deleting files and photo's to create space. But marketing wise this is obviously to create the slogan *available starting from (relatively) low price*.

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be available starting from €549 - €649. There hasn't been released a retail price list yet, but I expect that to come around the 19th of September.

Apple (Smart) Watch

Not iWatch, but the Apple (Smart) Watch is the name of the smart watch by Apple:

Apple Watch. Source Apple
Now you can finally see the time from your wrist, but now with an Apple flavor on top of it.
You can connect the Apple Watch to your iPhone (and perhaps also you iPad (Mini)) and use several apps directly from your wrist, like Whatsapp or Weather and even play games and even make direct phone calls.

The Apple Watch will come in three different editions with the option to change the straps. You can also customize your background and the entire look and feel of the Watch. This way you can still "Think Different". Fun fact is that can charge you Apple Wathc by using a magnetic chord that will come with the Apple Watch. The Apple Watch will also contain an heart rate monitor so you can track your heart activity (and more) for in example when you are working out. The Apple Watch will most likely be available for €349.

iOS8

The new iOS will come with some drastic, but fun changes. This time around we won't have to wait too long, since we can already download the new iOS on the 17th of September.
The focus in this iOS8 will be more focused around (your) health and sport, that is why the new iOS compliment the heart rate monitor function in the Apple Watch.

Source Engadget.com
With the new iOS8 there will also come an upgrade regarding iCloud. With iCould Drive you can now literally save all kinds of files on your iCloud and you can access them anywhere you go.

A very cool and interesting feature is the "Attached" function. This way you can start an e-mail on your iOS device and directly continue on you Mac (or the other way around) whenever there is need to.

You can actually already download iOS 8.0, so you don't have to wait till the 17th of September. The Gold Master version can be downloaded from the developers page of Apple. Do it at your own risk.

OS X Yosemite

OS X Yosemite will be the next update for the Mac OS. Several functions receive major updates and with the "Attached" function (also built-in in iOS8) you can also receive and answer phone calls with your Mac.

The new OS X Yosemite will also come with drastic changes to the design and look-and-feel of your Mac, iPhonehacks created a screen of the upcoming design:
Mac OS X Mavericks compared to Mac OS X Yosemite
So as you can see see there is a lot to look out too.
I can't wait for the new iOS(8), but for now I will still keep my iPhone 5S.
We will see what the future brings... perhaps the iPhone 6S?

Before I forget, you can also download the new album of U2 in iTunes. for free! You will find it in you iTunes library. All you have to do is download it. I like the free deal, but I can image that you feel "obligated" to download it... Just "Let it Go".

Thanks for reading and let me know what your thoughts are about the new Apple hard- and software.

iOS7

Next to the update for Mac OSX there is also an huge update for iOS coming next year. iOS 7 will be an update with some drastic changes in usability and design. For example see the screenshot for the Widget Centre of iOS down below. The update will come to all the iOS systems like the iPhone (starting from iPhone 4) and iPad (starting from iPad 2).

The changes look very cool and bring a lot of new depth to the system.
Everything will be re-designed and it will be a new and stable systeem then before.
Search on Google for more images of the system, you will be amazed.
